I’ve always said that I have the best Brides, and I really do! There’s no other bride I could imagine would keep her cool like Ioné did on their wedding day. The first challenge we faced was unscheduled Load Shedding. Which happened to go out at exactly the moment Ioné stepped out of the shower with wet hair and no power to have it blow dried!
Brad & Ioné did things a little differently for their wedding day. I wish all my couples would follow suit. They didn’t have any bridal party and did the creative shoot BEFORE the ceremony! It was awesome! This allowed me so much more time to play with them. Which brings me to the other challenge we faced… Towards the end of the creative shoot, we went exploring the grounds at Firgrove just opposite the Chapel. With 20 mins to go before the start of the ceremony, we got stuck in the mud. It was a typical Upper Highway afternoon. The grounds were soaked from recent rains. After a few attempts we made the call to ditch the car in the middle of the field and the bride was rescued by the venue owner, Jacqui.
Ioné made it to the chapel on time and the ceremony began. The skies started to open and things seemed to be going well. Just as Brad and Ioné were exchanging vows, a persistent alarm started to go off. Growing more intense as the vows we exchanged, until finally a brave guest stood up to push a button to bring it beeping to an end. You could feel the relief in the room as everyone cheered for this new hero. The rest of the festivities continued with out any further interruptions. There were “fines” during speeches and laughter filled the room as the night continued.
One thing I always preach when meeting a soon to be Mr & Mrs, is to not sweat the small stuff. You cannot control every aspect of a wedding and there is always something that is bound to go wrong. Ione and Brad were champs! Once all is said and done, it’s the commitment to each other has husband and wife that makes the day. Being surrounded by your most loved people and making those memories to laugh about in years to come.
(PS. We managed to get my car out of the mud, in case you were wondering. And I wasn’t the only one that got stuck that day!)
Mr & Mrs Minnaar, I loved being a part of your day! Thank you for sharing it with me!
